Tragic Fire Costs Local Family Home and Puppy

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (1/4/2015) - On Sunday evening, Jan. 4, 2015, at around 6:00 PM, the Central City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with flames showing on Fortney Road in the Cleaton area.

Once on the scene, officials found that a house trailer was burning. KenCo News spoke with firefighters on the scene of the incident.

Central City Fire Chief Rick King stated that the cause of the fire was unknown, but the family had stated that they had been having electrical issues recently. Chief King also stated that the family said there was a puppy inside the burning home, but no people were inside at the time of the fire.

After a lengthy battle with the flames, firefighters were finalizing when they came across the puppy. Firefighters did their best in an attempt to save the puppy by providing oxygen, but to no avail. The puppy was deceased.

The fire appeared to have started near the kitchen end of the residence and worked its way throughout the majority of the structure.

At the homeowners' discretion, KenCo News will be providing a local account where people may donate funds to help them through this time of hardship. We will let our readers know how to make donations to this family once the account is established.
