Woman Claims to be Lady Gaga after Stealing Truck

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky.  (01/08/2015) – On Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, the Madisonville Police Department (MPD) took part in a vehicle chase at approximately 1:13 PM.

Officer Crowley with MPD stated that officers were dispatched to Marketplace in Madisonville in reference to a reported stolen Black GMC SUV. The complainant informed officers that the SUV was left running and unlocked, and was stolen.

Moments later it was reported that a vehicle matching that description was traveling south on Franklin Street after striking three vehicles near Union Street and Court Street.

Officer Crowley spotted the vehicle as it turned west on East Broadway from Franklin Street. He initiated his emergency lights as the vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of East Broadway and Union. As Officer Crowley exited his vehicle, the driver of the SUV slammed down the gas and fled, almost striking Crowley’s vehicle. The vehicle traveled to East Broadway and Main and came to a complete stop with the front tire on the curb.

Upon contact with the driver, 57-year-old Tamberly S. Cavanaugh of Nortonville, Officer Crowley noted that she was very incoherent and erratic. Cavanaugh told Officer Crowley that she was “Lady Gaga.”

After conducting tests, Cavanaugh showed signs of impairment. After being read the Miranda Warning, Cavanaugh stated that she took the vehicle and knew that it was not hers. Cavanaugh was arrested on charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking Motor Vehicle, DUI 1st, Criminal Mischief 1s Degree X3 and Reckless Driving.

It was found that Cavanaugh had struck a 2005 Jeep Liberty, a 2000 Green Ford Mustang and a Black Dodge Charger. The Charger was the property of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. An estimated cost of around $1000 in damage was caused to each vehicle.
