Citizens Speak their Minds at School Board Meeting on Utility Tax

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (01/22/15) – At 5:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 22, the Muhlenberg County Board of Education met before a crowd of local citizens at the Felix Martin Center building to hear public input on the concept of the Utility Tax that could be put in effect for the county.

This potential raise on local utility costs is the result of recent budget issues that the school system is facing. This financial crisis originally resulted in an estimated 10 percent cut in school employee wages. According to local officials, the utility tax purpose is to allow school employees to receive less of a pay cut.

The following video footage is from the meeting, with clips of local citizens input on the new tax.
