Kentucky Mourns the Loss of Former U.S. Senator Wendell Ford

KENTUCKY (01/21/15) - Today, Jan. 22, 2015, Former United States Senator Wendell Ford, a proud servant of Kentucky, passed away at 90-years-old.

Ford’s impact on the state of Kentucky has been legendary, and his name has, over the years, become a mainstay in relation to the state. One popular military location that took on Senator Ford’s name is that of the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center, located in Muhlenberg County.

In regards to the passing of Senator Ford, Ky Auditor of Public Accounts, Adam Edelen, said, “I am heartbroken at the loss of Wendell Ford, Kentucky's great statesman of the last half century. As his youth chairman for reelection in 1992, I traveled all across Kentucky with him and learned the reason that Kentuckians loved him so much is because he loved Kentucky so much. His enduring legacy is that true public servants put people above politics.”

Ford was born in 1924 and was raised in the Daviess County area. He served in the military in World War II and served for 24 years in the Senate, retiring in 1999.
