 Myer's Martial Arts Presents a Free Lady's Self-Defense Seminar

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky.  (03/08/2015) – March is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. One out of four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Although domestic violence knows no boundaries in age, race, or economic background, women ranging from ages 20-24 are at the greatest risk of becoming victims.

One in three female homicides victims are murdered by their current or former partner each year. More than three million children witness domestic violence in their home each year. Domestic violence costs over $37 billion dollars each year. All of these facts together are not as alarming as the fact that most incidences of domestic violence are never reported.

As a way of drawing attention to this far too often neglected plague upon society, and as a means to serve the community, Myer's Martial Arts in Madisonville will be offering a free two hour women's self-defense seminar on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 2:30-4:30 PM. The seminar will be conducted by Prof. Jorge Jimenez (3rd Degree Black Belt Gracie Jui-Jitsu) and Sensei Eric Myers (3rd Degree Brown Belt Gracie Jui-Jitsu). The location of the seminar will be 1365 S. Main Street Suite C, Madisonville KY.

Participants will learn skills such as how to break free from an attacker's grip, avoid being taken to the ground, and how to escape from underneath an attacker that is pinning you. This seminar is free of charge, but donations are encouraged, with a portion of the proceeds going to Door of Hope in Madisonville. There will also be staff members from Sanctuary Inc. to offer information on other various aspects of violence against women, and the resources available to those affected by this type of crime.

Also on that day Prf. Jimenez will be conducting a Gracie Jui-Jitsu seminar from 10 AM to 1 PM. The cost of this seminar is $100.
