Petitions Against Muhlenberg Utility Taxes Delivered

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (03/09/15) – Today, Monday, March 9, 2015, Jarrod Douglas, a local committee member set to stop the implementation of the county utility tax voted in by the Muhlenberg County Board of Education, delivered a massive amount of signed petitions, over 3000, by local citizens, to the office of Gaylan Spurlin’s office at the Greenville Courthouse.

The process of uniting local citizens to stand against the Utility Tax officially began on Jan. 27, 2014, with a meeting with Mr. Spurlin at the Courthouse.

Mr. Douglas informed reporters that the next step in this process will be a 30-day verification period. After that the school board will have to decide if they want a special election (paid for) or wait until November. Mr. Douglas stated that the Special Election, if chosen, will cost the school board somewhere around $40,000.

While reporters were on the scene, Gaylan Spurlin informed the School Board of the delivery of the Petition.
