 Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian on WK Parkway Near Graham

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (03/17/15) – At approximately 9:35 PM on Monday evening, March 16, 2015, law enforcement officials from the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police were dispatched to the scene of an accident involving a pedestrian near the 45 mile-marker on WK Parkway.

Individuals had called Central Dispatch reporting that a male was at the edge of the highway, and worked his way towards the middle of the roadway. Witnesses stated that the man was acting strangely, making odd gestures towards passing vehicles.

The Kentucky State Police states that 28-year-old James Hamilton of Hartford was traveling down the Eastbound lane of the parkway when he struck the male. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Muhlenberg County Deputy Coroner Ricky King.

The identity of the pedestrian is currently unknown at this time. He was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

Both Eastbound lanes were shut down until right around 2:00 AM on Tuesday morning. All lanes are currently open.

Trooper Luis Palmer is currently investigating the collision.

Sgt. Brian Duvall, Sgt. Nick Rice, Tpr. Jacob Fortney, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department, the Graham Volunteer Fire Department, the Powderly Police Department, Muhlenberg County EMS, the Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.
