Local 4-Year-Old Says the Crappie Are Biting

WESTERN Ky. (03/18/2015) – On March 18, 2015, 4-year-old Levi Putnam, accompanied by his father Michael Putnam along with a friend of the family, decided to see if the Crappie are biting yet, a question currently being asked by many local fishermen. Judging by the photo of Levi with his catches of the day, it looks as if they just might be.

Water temperatures are actually at the ideal point right now for Crappie to start hitting hard. Other factors, such as the spawning season, current temperatures and weather conditions have made the environmental situation perfect for sports fishing.

During their outings today, the Putnams found that the majority of Crappie are currently located in shallow areas with very little wind activity. Many of these are relatively small coves and have a considerable amount of brush in the water.

Also caught were five largemouth bass of varying sizes. All of these were taken with live minnows. These fishermen stated that they did utilize some lures, but had no luck with them at all.

For anglers in the Muhlenberg County area that would like to hit the Crappie waters this weekend, Woods Bait Shop and Sportsman’s Café’ has the right size minnows. Wood’s was the source where the Putnam’s got their minnows for their outstanding fishing trip. Woods will be opening for their new Spring hours starting this weekend, from 4:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and will be open until 5:00 PM on Sunday.
