Local Citizens Warned of Large Tick Population this Year

KENTUCKY (03/31/15) - With the extreme weather conditions over the past few months, many local citizens are thinking that the tick population for the 2015 spring and summer seasons will be very small. This appears to not be the case.

The ticks are out and seeking flesh early this year, as KenCo News has already gotten several reports from local outdoorsmen that they are pulling a massive amount of ticks from their flesh. Our reporters have also covered several stories in wooded areas and came out with a multitude of ticks on them as well.

It is important that you take proper precautions when spending time in wooded areas and areas that have large weeds growing. There are many sprays that you can purchase to keep insects off while out in heavy-tick areas. The risk otherwise are diseases resulting from pathogens, such as Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

If you have outdoor pets, it is also important to be watchful for ticks on them as well, and to take proper steps in pre-treating them for ticks with anti-tick shampoos and such.
