Would you Like to be a Lifeguard?

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (04/30/15) – There is currently a need for individuals serving as lifeguards in the Muhlenberg and surrounding areas. With that in mind, training for lifeguard status is coming up in May.

The lifeguard classes this year are scheduled for May 15, 16, 17, 23, and 24. Participants are required to attend all dates for this class. The cost of the class is $300 and is all-inclusive. This covers materials, training and certification that lasts for two years. This training is through the American Red Cross.

Participants will need to be able to swim 300 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object from the 7-10 foot depth and tread water for two minutes.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

Lifeguarding is a challenging and important job. Being an effective lifeguard requires commitment and a lot of work, but the personal and professional benefits are well worth the effort.

Participants must be 15 years old by the completion of the course.

The Greenville city pool and Central city convention center are hiring summer lifeguards and individuals need to submit an application if interested in employment.

For more information or to sign up for the class contact Megan Chaney a 270-543-8480
