 Vehicle Strikes Police Car near Pennyrile Parkway Ramp

KENTUCKY  (05/03/2015) – On Sunday, May 3, 2015 at approximately 3:12 PM, an accident occurred involving a citizen driver and a police officer on the Northbound Pennyrile Parkway Exit Ramp just off Island Ford Road in Madisonville.

Police officials state that 57-year-old Carolyn E. Wittmer of Madisonville was driving a 2002 Chevy SUV heading northbound on Island Ford Road approaching the intersection of the northbound exit ramp from Pennyrile Parkway.

At the same time, Deputy Michael Evans with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was operating a Sheriff’s Office car turning left from the ramp onto Island Ford Road.Deputy Evans was responding to an emergency call at the time and had his lights and sirens both activated.

Deputy Evans slowed near the intersection, almost coming to a complete stop, and then entered the intersection. Wittmer’s vehicle struck Evans Cruiser.

Wittmer admitted that she heard the sirens and saw blue lights, however she stated that her brakes did not function properly.

Wittmer stated that she had possible injuries to her neck area as she noticed some pain.
