 Press Conference Held for New Book Regarding Central City Basketball History


MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (05/22/15) – On Friday, May 22, 2015, a public press conference was held at the Central City Convention Center for a new book published by a Central City native in regards to the old Central City High School basketball team.

The book, titled “Golden Glory, the History of Central City Basketball”, published by Acclaim Press out of Missouri, was authored by former Central City native Tom Wallace. Golden Glory gives a very indepth and interesting view of many players and games played by Central City High School students from decades ago.

Mr. Wallace is currently a resident of Lexington, but was born and raised in Muhlenberg County, and attended the Central City High School. Wallace has authored eight sports-related books and six novels as well.

Wallace graduated from the Central City High School in 1964. Since then, he was employed with the Henderson Gleaner as Sports Editor and honored by the Kentucky Press Association for writing the top sports articles in Kentucky.

Since those early days, Wallace served in Vietnam and graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Journalism.

Over 100 local citizens showed up to attend the Press Conference.

During the Press Conference, Wallace was accompanied by several former players and coaches. Those present were Mr. Wallace, Corky Withrow, Roger Newman, Joe Mac Howard, Lance Gish, Ralph Mayes, Tommy Eades, Todd Franklin and Greg Franklin.

The event was hosted by the Central City Alumni Association.
