Over $3 million approved for services in West Kentucky

KENTUCKY (06/09/15) – A total of $3.04 million in federal and state agency funds were approved today by a state legislative committee for services throughout west Kentucky.

More than two-thirds of the funding approved by the Government Contract Review Committee is federal assistance for former USEC plant workers to be administered by the Pennyrile Area Development District. The committee approved $2.077 million to serve clients affected by the 2013 closing of the former Paducah-based uranium enrichment facility.

“The funding to alleviate USEC’s closure is trade adjustment assistance from the federal government—assistance that essentially lessens damage to the U.S. economy,” said Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville. “It’s important to the region, and I am glad to see it approved.”

Also approved was an additional $966,000 in funds to Pennyroyal Regional Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board to help with the restructuring of lab management services for Western State Hospital and Western State Nursing Facility.

“These funds will provide the staff needed to operate and manage the lab on the Western State Hospital campus,” said Yonts.

A total of $3,664 in agency funds was also approved to provide medication aide training for four aides at Western State Nursing Facility. The funds will be administered by Madisonville Community College.

Rep. Brent Yonts represents the 15th House District, which includes all of Muhlenberg County and part of Hopkins County.
