 Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Drug Charges in Russellville

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (07/07/15) – The Russellville Police Department has reported an arrest that took place on July 3, 2015.

Police officials state that officers pulled over a maroon GMC Jimmy at the East 1st Street Family Market, operated by Kevin Hampton. While speaking with Hampton, investigating officer Whittaker detected the smell of alcoholic beverage. Upon further investigation, Hampton was believed to also be under the influence of drugs and was arrested.

During the search of Hampton’s vehicle, Officer Whittaker found a large clear plastic bag with 51 unidentified pills and a cigar containing a green leafy substance that was suspected to be marijuana.

The vehicle was seized and towed to the Russellville Police Department impound lot.

Hampton was charged with Rear License Plate Non-illuminated, Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol (2nd Offense/Aggravated Circumstances), Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Drug Unspecified), Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia and Prescription Controlled Substance not in Original Container.

Hampton was lodged in the Logan County Detention Center.
