WEATHER ALERT – Flash Flood Watch for Muhlenberg, Christian, Hopkins and Surrounding Counties

WESTERN Ky. (07/08/15) – Due to heavy rainfall over the past few days, along with potential upcoming heavy rains today, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for local areas.

Local grounds are heavily saturated with water at this time and all local creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes and drain ditches are already above normal levels. These facts coupled with tropical humidity and a slow moving warm front that could produce pockets of heavy rain today have resulted in the threat of flash flooding.

This threat could continue into the nighttime as a weak cold front will be moving southeast towards the lower Ohio Valley region.

Local citizens are urged to take precautions when driving today if more rain does occur in the area. Water is already over roadways in some low-lying areas and could rise to even higher levels, covering other roadways that are not yet affected.

Numerous thunderstorms and showers are expected today and tonight. A few storms may produce damaging wind gusts, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours.
