 Police Standoff Ends in Tragedy in Browder Area


WESTERN Ky.(07/17/15) – The Greenville Police Department (GPD) has released the following information regarding a standoff that ended with the death of a local man.

According to GPD officials, on July 16, 2015 at approximately 10:30 am, Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Deputies responded to call of a suicidal male subject with a gun, traveling in a vehicle on Highway 70 East near Browder, Kentucky.

Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The male subject stopped at the intersection of Highway 70 East and Railroad Lane after a brief pursuit.

Officers were involved in a standoff with the male subject for over an hour. The male subject remained in his vehicle during the standoff and died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No shots were fired by law enforcement.

Kentucky State Police, Greenville, Central City, and Powderly Police Departments, Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Muhlenberg EMS, and Muhlenberg County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.

The Muhlenberg County Investigative Task Force is handling the death investigation.
