BREAKING NEWS - Arrest Warrants issued in Central City Shooting Case 

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (9/11/2014) – On August 30, 2014, local law enforcement responded to a report of a shooting that occurred in Central City near O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, directly across from Dairy Queen.

The investigation by the Kentucky State Police stated that a Muhlenberg Sheriff’s Deputy had conducted a traffic stop on 29-year-old Jesse Hailey of Mayfield, KY, along with passenger Kristi Copeland, 33, of Wingo, KY.

During the traffic stop, Hailey attempted to run over the deputy with his vehicle. The Deputy fired his firearm and struck Hailey. Hailey was hospitalized due to his wound.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, at approximately 11:10 AM, Kentucky State Police Trooper Sergeant Derek Smith executed arrest warrants on Hailey for Attempted Murder of a Police Officer (KSP Warrant). Also, warrants were served on behalf of the Greenville Police Department and Muhlenberg County Investigative Task Force for Robbery 1st Degree, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Hailey is currently under medical care at the University of Louisville Hospital, listed as in Critical condition, but stable.

At this time Hailey is currently under guard.

Sgt. Derek Smith with the KSP is currently performing an ongoing investigation in the case.
