Shoplifter Flees Walmart, Refuses Arrest

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (9/26/2014) – The Madisonville Police Department (MPD) has reported an incident involving a shoplifting case that occurred at Walmart on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014.

MPD officials state that they were informed of a female attempting to flee from Walmart security, on foot. While headed to the scene, officers were informed that the female, 44-year-old Laura Lowe of Poseyville, Indiana, entered a gray Ford car and left the parking lot.

Once on the scene, Walmart employees stated that the suspect left eastbound on Anton Road. After a brief search of the area, the suspect vehicle was found in the parking lot at Ideal Market. When officers entered the parking lot, Lowe started circling the gas pumps multiple times. Officers attempted to stop Lowe, but she continued circling the gas pumps. Finally, Lowe came to a stop next to the store.

Officers ordered Lowe to exit the vehicle and to turn around, placing her hands behind her back, in order to apply handcuffs. Lowe did not comply and resisted arrest by tightening her arms to avoid handcuffs. Lowe was physically restrained until she complied and was cuffed.

Officers searched Lowe’s vehicle and found $161.63 worth of Walmart merchandise.

Further search of the vehicle revealed a white container located under the center arm rest, containing a blue straw with white residue and two plastic wrappers containing white residue. After having her rights read to her, Lowe admitted that the substance was crushed Hydrocodone.

Lowe was arrested on charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking- Shoplifting under $500, Fleeing/Evading Police 2nd Degree (Motor Vehicle), Resisting Arrest, Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
