Driver Loses Control of Vehicle, Busts through Wall into Hucks Building

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (10/3/2014) – The Madisonville Police Department has reported a one-vehicle accident that took place on Friday morning, October 3, at approximately 11:43 AM.

Officials stated that 31-year-old Andrea R. Cox of Madisonville was driving a 1995 Ford Mustang on South Main Street in Madisonville, eastbound, when the vehicle brakes allegedly failed.

Cox said that, in order to avoid hitting other vehicles, she exited the right side of the roadway into the parking lot of Hucks. She stated that her vehicle accelerated, causing her to lose control. The vehicle then struck the north side of the Hucks building with the front end of the vehicle busting through the wall and into the store.

The impact of the collision damaged gas lines inside the building. Natural gas was shut off immediately by on-scene emergency personnel.

Madisonville Building Inspector Frank Wallace closed Hucks until time when repairs are made and the building passes inspection.

No injuries were reported.

The Madisonville Police Department was assisted by the Madisonville Fire Department, Med Center Ambulance service and Atmos Gas Tech personnel.
