Public Asked to Help Local Kids for Christmas via Shop with a Cop

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (12/07/2014) – The Greenville Police Department is preparing to help local underprivileged kids, and you can help too.

KenCo News spoke with Officer Matt Adams regarding this year’s annual Shop with a Cop program. Officer Adams stated that this is the third year that the Greenville Police Department (GPD) has hosted this very worthy cause.

“The response to our Shop with a Cop program has been lighter than it was last year,” said Officer Adams, “but hopefully we will make up some ground this week.”

Adams stated that GPD sends letters to area businesses asking them to assist in taking local underprivileged children shopping.

“We work hand-in-hand with the Family Resource Center of Greenville Elementary School to make sure we’re helping as many children as possible.”

During the 2013 Christmas season, GPD helped approximately 15 children. According to Officer Adams, this year’s need is even greater.

GPD will be taking local kids shopping next Saturday (Dec. 13) at Wal-Mart in Central City, beginning at 8:30. If you would like to help kids in need during the Christmas season, it’s not too late. Donations may be made at the Greenville Police Department or at the Greenville Elementary School Family Resource Center.

KenCo News will be covering this worthy event, and we urge local citizens to donate if possible. There is no amount too great or small in helping children have a blessed Christmas.
