A Day of Fun and Appreciation at the Central City Shop with a Cop Day

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (12/20/2014) – The 2014 Central City Shop with a Cop program really paid off this year as over 40 local children got to have a Christmas they didn’t expect. This event was so successful that Santa Claus showed up and even brought his security elf!

At 8:00 AM on Saturday morning, KenCo News spoke with Central City Police Department (CCPD) Chief Brent Roberson. Chief Roberson stated that this would likely be the most successful year for this program so far, as so many children were being blessed with presents.

Santa Claus secret identity this year was that of Brandon Divine, a local firefighter with the Central City Fire Department. His security elf was portrayed by Central City Police Officer Duane Davenport.

Chief Roberson was assisted at the event by Officer Jenkins and Officer Reynolds. Also assisting was Sarah Gott and Megan Gates, as well as Marilyn Woodruff, with the Central City Elementary School.

Chief Roberson told reporters that the gathering of funds for the Shop with a Cop program was handled by Family Resource Center Director Marilyn Woodruff. He said that this year was a true blessing, as local businesses and individuals stepped forward with donations to make this happen, gathering right around a total of $5000.

From the family aspect, this was a great event as well, made obvious by the many hugs and thank you’s from dozens of children for Santa, Elf Officer Duane, and the Central City Police Officers.

Below you will find a slideshow from the event as children shopped, had fun and thanked our local officers.
