Christmas Party Results in Shooting Incident

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (12/25/2014) –The Madisonville Police Department has reported a shooting incident that took place on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2014, at approximately 7:37 PM.

Police officials state that Central Dispatch received a report of a physical fight with shots fired at 333 Dulin Avenue. Once on the scene, witnesses told officers that several subjects in a black Dodge Dually were involved in a fight with guests at a Christmas party regarding cars blocking the roadway.

Witnesses stated that there was a physical altercation when Julian Pena, a 21-year-old visitor from Texas, produced a handgun from her vehicle and started firing shots into the air. Ten or more rounds were fired with one bullet striking a neighboring apartment at 331 Dulin Avenue. The bullet was found in a closet adjacent to a child’s playroom.

Officers and Deputies from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office did a search and stopped the vehicle on Grapevine Road.

The driver, Pena, was arrested on charges of DUI 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana and 4 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. Pena was also served with two outstanding warrants.

The other individuals in the vehicle were charged with Alcohol Intoxication. One passenger, Tina Pena, 36 of Madisonville, was also charged with Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree, Menacing, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.

Jacob R. Caraway, 18 of Madisonville, was also in the vehicle and arrested.

The Hopkins County Animal Shelter was called in to take possession of two dogs that were also in the vehicle.
